Most domain-specific languages fail. Research consistently shows that the majority of DSLs developed in academic contexts never achieve real-world adoption.[6] A systematic review of DSLs for algorithmic processing found only 20% demonstrated real-world deployment despite strong performance characteristics.[7] AI coding agents achieve below 20% accuracy on DSLs due to limited training exposure.[8] The graveyard of niche languages is vast.

And yet: in mid-2025, a DSL called CAL — Cascade Analysis Language — began taking shape. The Framework Gap: What Traditional Tools Miss

The core claim of cascade analysis is that traditional risk and impact frameworks fail to model cross-dimensional propagation — the mechanism by which a quality problem becomes an operational problem becomes a revenue problem becomes a customer problem. This is not a theoretical objection. It is a structural limitation documented in the literature.

FMEA, developed by the U.S. military in the 1940s, evaluates failure modes as independent events through a Severity Γ— Occurrence Γ— Detection formula.[13] As iSixSigma documents, this assumes each risk operates in isolation — a foundational assumption that breaks down in any system where failures interact.[9] Recent research has proposed modifications using PageRank algorithms and influence propagation matrices to address this gap, but these remain academic extensions rather than standard practice.[10]

The method does not model how the consequences of one hazard become the causes of another across organizational dimensions.

Risk matrices — the most widely used tool — assign categorical severity and likelihood scores without any mechanism for compounding or multiplier effects. The same scenario scored by different teams will produce different results, and a "High" rating provides no information about whether the impact is 2Γ— or 15Γ— the visible cost.[15]

The Self-Referential Proof

The signal extraction used the same semantic intent rubrics embedded in the MCP tool definitions.[4] The FETCH score was calculated using the same formula (Chirp Γ— |DRIFT| Γ— Confidence) that scored every prior case.[1] The cascade map follows the same dimensional framework that mapped Tailwind CSS, the Kansas City Royals, and the Buffalo Sabres.[2]
